Walsh Brothers acquire former Mappin & Webb store

George Farrer Jewellers to reopen in the High Street.

No. 19 High Street will continue to be a jewellery shop within this fine heritage Grade II listed building with an ornate shop front and interior which will be preserved by the new tenant.

Durlings have successfully acquired the leasehold interest from The Watches of Switzerland Group on behalf of their client, independent jeweller Walsh Bros.

The shop is to incorporate George Farrer in its trading name again – “ Walsh at George Farrerr”.

George Farrer was a notable Tunbridge Wells jeweller in the 19th century. Born in 1840 in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, we know he lived at this property as discovered in the 1881 census. We also know he married Louisa Bivit in 1868 and they had 5 children between 1874 and 1881 – three girls and two boys.

The High Street continues to go from strength to strength with other new openings due soon…….full details to follow…
